Islamabad-Being the largest water reservoir, Tarbela Dam’s (alt. 1380 feet) water level has retreated drastically while the rain-fed Mangla Dam is facing an even disastrous situation. Despite collecting a huge volume from the melted glaciers and snow-covered peaks which has a record increase of 37% compared to the last year, dam’s waterline may not be easily compensated.
The scarce amount of rainfall and sharp temperature rise are the factors leading to this emergency.
However, the already drenched power supply will be further affected adversely as the energy generation of the hydel plants will decrease sharply.
