Complaints rise against the Italian embassy

Although economic, trade, and cultural relations between Italy and Pakistan are at an all-time high and Italy hosts the largest number of Pakistani diaspora in the European Union (EU), the experience of the family members of Pakistanis living in thousands in Italy has been unpleasant at the Italian embassy in Islamabad, to say the least.

Pakistan and Italy’s ties have been friendly. In fact, most students from Pakistan travel to Italy to look for opportunities and continue their studies. Italy has emerged as the seventh-largest global destination for workers’ remittances to Pakistan and ranks first among the countries in the EU.

In spite of all these positive aspects, the Italian embassy in Islamabad remains closed for the Pakistanis. It has outsourced its consular services to a company named Gerry’s International, which is the Global Service Participant (GSP) of FedEx. If Pakistani citizens want to apply at the Embassy of Italy for visas and legalizations, they require an appointment, which must be booked through Gerry’s call center.

Many people are still waiting to submit their visa applications for a reunion with their dear ones. There are others waiting for the reopening of the documents legalization service.

Gerry’s International has limited appointments and it has become most difficult to access the counters in order to have to repeat the whole process by overloading the Prefectures with the new request for permits for the already authorized subjects.

Their workforce return documents and passports after a delay of eighteen months. People want an extension of their documents or the restoration of documents legalization service. Delivery time for documents also needs to be reduced to a minimum like other EU states.

Computerized documentation is necessary as legalized by the Pakistani authorities. It will help avoid manual filling of forms such as birth or marriage certificates, which have seen alterations of various kinds over the years.

Several Pakistanis living in Italy say, “When we visited Italian Embassy during our stay in Pakistan the Italian staff at the embassy giving services did not look like the same considerate Italians we had lived within Italy.

“Their looks made us feel like they are altogether different from their fellow citizens in Italy. Our experience has been unpleasant, to say the least. Now they have outsourced services to Gerry’s International,” they added.

  1. Italian consulate in Pakistan is not owner able because they are not gives appointments in public. And they are selling those appointments in 2000€ or 2500€. They are taking the bribes and doing corruption there. Peoples are waiting for appointments around 1 year but without money you can’t take appointments. You have to pay for appointments then you go in Italian consulate in Pakistan. And then they continue the next process. Peoples are very disappointed and hopeless for these activities of Italian Consulate in Pakistan.
