The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has said that several provisions in the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act are not in line with Shariah and may lead to ‘new social problems’.
According to the press release issued by the Council of Islamic Ideology, a high-level meeting was held yesterday to review the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act.
The press release stated that the meeting emphasized the need to protect the rights of transgender.
The Council of Islamic Ideology suggested to the government to form a committee comprising the Council of Islamic Ideology, Ulemas, jurists and medical experts to review the existing Transgender Persons (Protection of Right) Act.
It was further informed that comprehensive legislation can be made by keeping every aspect of this transgender issues.
The Council of Islamic Ideology said that several provisions in the current Act are not in line with Sharia principles and may lead to new social problems.
