Some PDM leaders think it sounds unreasonable that another election is held before the current tenure of the assembly is over. Apparently, a sound and sensible solution to the current chaos appears to be the holding of elections. It seems a vital factor in improving the current state of affairs.
However, given out of the ordinary approach, lack of organized thinking, and absence of issues-based politics, some elements think that even the outcome of the envisaged polls is not going to put right the present circumstances.
If such is the way of thinking then who is going to rid us of the prevailing bitterness, which seems more than ever deepened? Why they do not consider that this is happening at the cost of socioeconomic development?
The country is limping forward in the chaos as a new normal. There is no assurance that the grumbling of the suffering people and censuring of the government is going to discontinue. May the fresh spell of Long March awaken the PDM government?
The idea of early elections is a sound one in this troublesome condition. However, political leaders should stop building their mass popularity on false and fake narratives deliberately. If it continues unabated that will be a pity.
Our dear homeland is in a quagmire of political and economic uncertainty. This is hard to defend for a long time. Setting up a caretaker government of technocrats for the interim period and a fair and impartial election is the feasible solution to come out of the ongoing crises.
We need a governance system for our country that can eliminate dynastic rulers. What happens next if the opposition in the next government also seeks a no-confidence motion against the government? The positive thing our political leaders can do for their country is to sit together and talk to find a permanent solution.
What is after all the priority of our political leaders? Is it self-gratification or serving the people? The answer is so easy that it does not require thinking. The early elections are the only way out of the predicament.
The government will be setting a bad example by not listening to voices calling for early elections before the due date, as in the future whoever is in opposition will resort to agitation and sit-ins. Early elections may solve many problems. With the present situation, early elections are the last resort.
The political crises have lit the fire of economic crisis, which is now turning into a furious firestorm. With no political party prepared to negotiate, it intimidates to tear off the stuff binding the people and the government.
Simply by putting up a brave face, one cannot give the impression that all is well and that he/she is not facing any problems. This attitude cannot pull the country out of the mess it is in without further putting at risk its political repute.
Every day of confrontation between the political parties takes the country further away from a reasonable resolution to the crisis. Given the existing circumstances, the PDM government must consider early elections. As the things stand now, it seems to be a reasonable way out of the many crises constantly threatening our dear homeland.
It is high time the political parties take difficult decisions to reach a consensus without any political costs in order to enable the country to come out of the present muddle and make economic progress.
The PDM government has the chance to deal with the challenge politically. A confrontational approach will weaken it further and create a condition of continued uncertainty in the country, deteriorating further the political and economic state of affairs. A patriotic approach is needed now.
