Elections not Martial Law answer to Pakistan’s future

Islamabad, Aug 31: With Shahbaz Sharif set to land in September’s second week in Lahore, Pakistan Peoples Party demand for elections within constitutional borderline, and a pending Jamat e Islami’s petition in Supreme Court, the Miltablishment has spoke its mind out “No Martial Law and nothing less than elections”.

A senior official close to power corridors on Thursday informed PrideNews: “Elections are scheduled to be held in February2024 or may be earlier, but no martial law is in the offing, let’s not play with country’s economy and let’s not confuse our international partners and the people of Pakistan.”

The official remarked: “all those anchors and media persons buzzing on Social Media with rumour mill of martial law, and accountability – let’s be clear we can’t huddle this sinking ship alone as every one (political party) has to play a role to save Pakistan and Martial law is not the right answer.”

“The Miltablishment won’t play any role accept to assist ECP in holding free and fair elections, and this is the message for the world even”, observed the official.

He noted: “we can feel the public pulse and anger of the people and looking at the masses we want a democratic system delivered back to people of Pakistan.”

“No martial law can bail out the country from an economic crises as we need an inflow of investment, with investors confidence and secuirty for the people,” he added.

The official asserted: “We can feel the heat of countries eagerly looking at the Pakistan for elections, and yes we will hold it.”

The official informed that Election Commission of Pakistan would soon give a definite date of elections.”

The ECP has already started the process of engaging with all political parties of the country but yet to announce a date for elections.

On the other hand JI leader Liaquat Baloch on Aug 29th has requested the highest court of the country – Supreme Court, to instruct the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to ensure the holding of elections within 90 days of the dissolution of the National Assembly.

PPP has also thrusted its efforts demanding an elections within the constitutional time frame as enshrined in the Constituion.

PML(N)

On the other side of isle, a senior PML(N) leader while speaking from London with PrideNews said: “Mian Shahbaz Sharif has booked his ticket, and due to arrive in September’s second week, and will land in Lahore.”

“We are done with all discussions with PML(N) supermo Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, and we are set to go into elections once the ECP sounds a beagle for elections,” said the key PML(N) party leader while on phone from London.

“Mian Nawaz Sharif will be following soon and landing in Lahore as well no second thoughts,” noted the second tier party leader.
