Nawaz Faces “Security Threats”

Islamabad, Oct 19: After getting a protective bail from higher court in Islamabad, and less than 24 hours left for Nawaz Sharif’s planned arrival for his historic appearance in Lahore gathering, sources revealed “high secuirty threat” to PML-N supremo, similar faced by the slain leader Benazir Bhutto.
“The Punjab Home Department, and Punjab Police Speical Branch has issued an alert that will also be conveyed to PML-N official in coming hours,” one senior Punjab Government official source confided to PrideNews on Thursday.
“Threat pattern is almost similar to Ms.Bhutto who had witnessed a blast during her procession upon her return from exile, and was hit by a bomb attack soon after her arrival in Karachi,” the official added.
The Karsaz bombing attack took place on the night of October 18, 2007 in Karachi on former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s motorcade.
The bombing occurred two months before she was actually assassinated in Rawalpindi.
The bombing left approximately 200 dead, and more than 500 injured, and the Edhi Morgue located in Karachi’s Sohrab Goth was filled with unidentified bodies, some of which lay there for weeks on end.
“It may be an event to sabotage his rally but Sharif’s needed to be extremely alert for their secuirty,” asserted the official.
The elder Nawaz Sharif would be meeting a selected group of people on Thursday before flying from Dubai, and would leave for Pakistan on Saturday morning.
Sharif according to one party leader, would first touchdown in Islamabad, and then to Lahore.
Over 150 people would accompany Mr.Sharif upon his return to Pakistan, in a chartered plane. Journalists, politicians, and activists have booked the ticket along him to Pakistan alongside the elder Sharif.
“Bullet proof vehicles and escort secuirty will be given to Sharif being former premier, but we (Punjab Government) will add fool proof secuirty at the venue as well,” one source assigned with the task told PrideNews.
Though, officially National Counter Terrorism Authority, has not made any official comment on the matter which issues dossiers, and threat alerts from time to time about politicians, secuirty assets, and buildings and besides general travel advisories to expats visiting Pakistan.
“Federal law enforcement and secuirty agencies are privy to the matter, and keeping the latest threat alert to elder Sharif a secret from media,” added one official, refusing to share his name.
