Islamabad, Sept 13: With ever changing geo political environ, a proposed change is likely predicted at the country’s most powerful institution- Inter-Services Intelligence, PrideNews has learnt reliably on Friday.
Currently the Directorate General of ISI is headed by Lt.Gen. Nadeem Anjam, powerball man.
Four three-star Generals are under due deliberations for those who matters in the State affairs, a source confided to this scribe.
“Lt.Gen Syed Imdad Hussain Shah, Lt.Gen Muhammad Asim Malik, Lt.Gen Shahid Imtiaz, and Lt.Gen Rahat Naseem Ahmed Khan are in the proposed brown file pages for discussion as a new DG ISI,” a senior defence source said while speaking with PrideNews on condition of anonymity as proposed names.
Lt.Gen Syed Imdad Hussain Shah is Corps Commander Gujrawanala, Lt.Gen Muhammad Asim Malik is Adjutant General Pakistan Army, Lt.Ge. Shahid Imtiaz is Corps Commander Rawalpindi, whereas Lt.Gen Rahat Naseem Ahmed Khan is Corps Commander Balochistan.
The source said that sitting Chief of General Staff is also in discussion for the most powerful post of the country.
Asked what led to a likely change at the top intelligence agency of the State, the source responded that multiple political factors, internal secuirty issues, and changing geo-political landscape brought this action on ground from top military brass.
“Though the tenure of the DG ISI Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum will end by Oct 8,2024, who had performed outstandingly well despite buffered political situation, within and outside Pakistan and along with its troubled borders,” maintained the source.
“Lt.Gen Nadeem Anjum performed excellent on multiple strategic, and sensitive tasks for safe guarding Pakistan’s interest at home and globally,” maintained the source.
The source said that formally a summary will be moved from Ministry of Defence, as soon as the Chief of the Army Staff Gen. Syed Asim Munir Shah will have a discussion with the Prime Minister.
The posting of DG ISI is approved by the Prime Minister of Pakistan whom the ‘DG ISI reports’ but only in books.
If the proposal gets through the new incumbent DG ISI would have a hard nut to crack having stark challenges at home – massive political polarisation, internal secuirty challenges, and internationally – fragile border issues being faced from Afghanistan, India and even Iran.
Ends.
