Islamabad, Oct 5: As the federal government with establishment backed Interior Minister Senator Mohsin Naqvi, gagged mobile communications, contained roads while PTI branded supporters attempt to reach D-Chowk, JUI-F stands not to support government’s upcoming constitutional amendment annoyed many including people on the other side of isle – Rawalpindi.
The situation in Islamabad has remained stressful even on the second day due to intermittent violent clashes between PTI protestors and the Islamabad police, while the party has now also decided to go ahead with its Lahore, Punjab protest, amid blockades and high security.
Meanwhile, Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s stand has irked Premier Shahbaz Sharif led regime already having an egg its face for not been able to present a planned constitutional amendment in Parliment, unable to meet the requirement of two-third majority in both the houses – National Assembly and Senate.
The new constitutional amendments gives Pakistan government a right to establish a constitutional court other than Supreme court of Pakistan and muscle to transfer High Court Judges anywhere in four provinces without their consent.
“He (Maulana Fazlur Rehman) has refused simply since he now wanted a delay which we (government) can’t risk,” a highly placed government official part of sitting federal government informed PrideNews on Saturday.
“Maulana is stiff not budging for any thing but wants fairness in system delayed approach till November and we are facing undue pressure from other side – referring to establishment,” informed the official.
A JUI-F leader also part of its Central Shura (central executive body) added: “All the offers given to Maulana has been dispatched to dustbin and our stance is simple this government is not eligible for ‘Constitutional Amendment’ leave aside the other routine legislative business.”
With SCO conference also around the corner Pakistan Army has already taken the security paraphernalia of the capital on the request of Ministry of Interior, including its adjoining city Rawalpindi and other parts of Punjab – on the request of Punjab government.
Though, the Interior Ministry claimed, Army has been called for maintaining law and order for upcoming SCO set to begin from Oct-15 to Oct 16. Multiple Heads of Government are due for the meeting including Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
“Do you think Army is meant for SCO its not, how you control protest, and instead agitate and disturb lives of millions ordinary citizens in twin cities other than rest of Punjab and Khyber-Pakthunkhwa,” questioned JUI-F leader, indicating poor media strategy, and planning of Interior Ministry highlighting how miserably the Ministry of Interior failed to manage media and its image before the masses.
On a question if Maulana has prepared any draft for constitutional amendment in consultation with PPP he asked: “ A draft not acceptable to Shahbaz Sharif led regime who cant even transfer an Interior Secretary on his own.”
“Ask him (Shahbaz Sharif) a work in Interior Ministry and you wont believe he has no control over that division,” insisted the JUI-F key leader.
The government is planning to bring the constitutional amendment draft soon after SCO but its short of numbers and still unable to manage the way former DG ISI Lt.Gen Faiz Hameed used to manage for the than PTI government, garnering support even for money bill through his muscle power of its directorate and mincing the opposition while sending few of them even to Jail.
Ends.
