ISLAMABAD, Oct 11: Shahbaz Sharif, and his ably led regime should pay a thanks giving holiday for getting Turkey roasted – completing Constitutional Amendment numbers with assistance coming from Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and lastly Jamiat Ulema Islam- Fazlurrehman (JUI-F).
“Numbers are complete in both houses with agreement on both – Maulana’s and PPP’s constitutional amendment draft ,” a key government official confided to PrideNews on Friday.
The government has completed 224 vote target line in National Assembly, and 64 votes in Senate for gaining a foothold of two-third majority in both houses to generate a constitutional amendment.
Few weeks back sitting government led by Premier Shahbaz Sharif made a botch attempt to add an additional amendment to the constitution, while failing grossly short of numbers after facing a refusal from JUI-F – after which the government to fall into ditch of embarrassment.
“It’s Constitutional Bench, and not a Constitutional Court,” remarked the official.
“We don’t want further muzzling on the issue let’s resolve, and move forward,” he insisted.
He added: “Sitting Supreme Court Chief Justice Honourable Faiz Issa is also not being given extension while High Court judges won’t be rotated or transferred.”
“These are few key agreements on which Maulana is siding in prinicpal with the government ,” he noted.
While PTI is pushing lawyers to kick start a movement against the constitutional amendments, PPP political wisdom to gain support from Bars is helping them manoeuvre well against Imran Khan led party’s plot to ensure failure of any constitutional package, and add more trouble to the sitting regime.
Asked if Maulana will now join the Cabinet or admit to any of the government’s blue-chip offers, the official said: “Maulana’s shura (excuitve committee) of JUI-F to made a final nod in this regard and he (Maulana) will revert back to us soon.”
The official remarked that Maulana Fazlur Rehman only agreed to Nawaz Sharif’s and Bilawal Bhutto – Zardari’s negotiation(s) – while declaring Senator Mohsin Naqvi, and other pre-negotiating groups with JUI-F as “non-political actors”.
“Maulana was annoyed by Shahbaz Sharif and his team since he thinks they don’t stand to their words, and commitments while Bilawal Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif are trusted for their statements and commitments.”
Ends.
