Over 51,000 Pakistanis to Return from US as Strategic Institutions Task Government with Smooth Repatriation Plan
Islamabad Jan 24: The federal government has been directed by strategic sensitive institution to prepare for the repatriation of over 51,000 undocumented Pakistani migrants from the United States, PrideNews has learned on Friday.
A senior government official revealed that these institutions have urged the government to make its first diplomatic request to the U.S. administration, seeking an arrangement to prevent such a large number of Pakistanis from being returned simultaneously.
Key ministries, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and the Ministry of Interior (MOI) – specifically the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) – have been tasked with preparing for the migrants’ return. A special desk is being created to manage all related affairs, ensuring the smooth arrival of these individuals.
A senior official shared that strategic institutions have instructed the government to avoid detaining returning migrants. Instead, authorities will focus on completing the necessary legal documentation at airports, allowing them to integrate back into society without harassment. The official emphasized that Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) may receive payments from the U.S. government to arrange special chartered flights for the returnees.
In preparation for this repatriation, the Pakistani Embassy in Washington, D.C., has been tasked with establishing a dedicated desk to assist migrants. This includes services such as renewing National Identity Cards (CNICs), updating family records, and managing other required documentation, including visas, as requested by U.S. Homeland Security to facilitate the process.
Strict instructions have been issued to the FIA, customs, and airport authorities to treat returning migrants with respect and efficiency. Any misconduct or harassment of these individuals will result in severe disciplinary actions, including removal from service. Minimal fees will be charged for the documentation required, ensuring accessibility for all returnees.
Additionally, a helpline will be established at the Pakistani Embassy and consulates in Los Angeles, Houston, and New York to assist migrants during the transition. The High Commission in Canada may also be involved to help manage the workload, ensuring an efficient and smooth process.
In a related development, over 2.8 million undocumented Indian migrants in the United States may also face repatriation. This represents a significant challenge for New Delhi as the Trump administration intensifies its efforts to remove unauthorized immigrants from the U.S.
Pakistan’s strategic institutions see this as an opportunity to streamline migration policies while addressing the concerns of undocumented citizens abroad. The government’s coordinated approach aims to ensure the dignity and well-being of Pakistanis returning home.
Ends.
